When we purchased the building in June 2019, Bethel said goodbye to a beloved après-ski institution—The Funky Red Barn, known for its live music, pool tables, and late-night dancing. We kept the bones of the barn but gave it a fresh new soul. Out went the funk; in came a modern sensibility. The building got a sleek coat of cool gray, the pool hall became a curated wine room, and late-night pizzas gave way to oysters on the half shell.
Modern Barn brings a neighborhood vibe with elevated taste. We blend the warmth of friendly, familiar service with a creative menu that draws inspiration from Maine’s coastal bounty, Mediterranean traditions, and globally inspired seasonal flavors. Our passion for top-of-the-catch seafood, fine wines, and memorable hospitality is woven into every detail—and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Modern Barn has been recognized by Downeast Magazine, named an OpenTable Diner’s Choice, and is proud to hold the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2021, 2023, and 2024. Our Wine Room showcases a thoughtfully curated collection of 175 bottles—ALL available by the glass. You’ll also find an impressive liquor library, featuring over 50 single malt scotches, modern cocktails, and a rotating selection of craft beers.
